No, I Don’t Want a Bigger E-Reader. I Want an Even Smaller One.

ebookporn:

Now, I understand that for a lot of people, bigger screens are better. What I actually want, though, is the opposite: I want a smaller e-reader. More specifically, I want an iPhone-sized one.

A novel idea app gone

Yes, I know: it’s quite easy to read an ebook on an iPhone. But I don’t like reading on my phone or on a similar type of display.

Despite the fact that I prefer print books, though, the bulk of the content I read is digital. All the news I consume through reading comes either via my laptop or iPhone, and I probably spend more time at this point reading articles of one kind or another than I do reading books (I only subscribe to one magazine, and I do indeed read the print edition of it).

The Always On Display functionality of flagship smartphones is actually a novel idea as users will be able to check the time and notifications simply by looking at their handset’s display even when it is turned off.

Samsung took the feature to another level when it released the latest update for its current flagship, the Galaxy S7, that allowed users to have more control of the use of the Always On Display app, notes the Android Authority.

The latest update also allows for time settings, which means that it can be set to automatically turn off after going to sleep.

Since the release of the Korean tech giant’s Galaxy S7 in March, some users have also noticed the device’s irregular battery life issues whenever Always On Display app is being used. The app is supposed to use only a very small amount of battery power.

For the users of the Samsung Galaxy S7 who wanted to get the update on the Always On Display app, they can simply enter the Samsung Galaxy Apps store using their Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge. They can then navigate to My Apps, click on the update and install it.

Or they can opt to enter the Settings menu, select Display, then Always On Display, before scrolling to the bottom of the list and select About and find the update there as well.

A variant of the Galaxy S7

Meanwhile, a variant of the Samsung Galaxy S7 has just made it online again. The smartphone is reportedly called the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active and it has been seen on a new render that shows off an interesting gold color option, reports Android Central.

It was actually reputable leaker Evan Blass who branded the variant of Samsung’s current flagship as a desert camo although the specific name of the color option of the smartphone is still unknown at this time.

The Galaxy S7 Active has been making the rounds online. Not too long ago, it was seen with a green camo option with AT&T branding.

The variant of Samsung’s current flagship smartphone is said to follow the footsteps of the Galaxy S6 Active and shall remain an AT&T exclusive as both renders have shown thus far.

Making an impact on the company’s profits

Almost three months after its official unveiling and a little over two months after making it to the retail markets beginning on March 11, the Samsung Galaxy S7 has already made its impact on the operating profit of the Korean tech giant for the first quarter of 2016.

The latest flagship smartphone from Samsung is just three weeks in the market during the first quarter of this year but it already helped pushed the company’s first quarter operating profit to $5.7 billion, which is a 10% increase from the same period last year.

Of course, there is also the companion flagship smartphone to consider in the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

Samsung is looking at making a solid $42.3 billion in revenues for the first quarter of 2016, which is almost a $2 billion increase from the $40.7 billion in revenues that the Korean tech company posted in the same quarter last year.

The Korean tech company has shipped over 10 million units of Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge in March, which is why it posted a solid first month of sales.

While the company has not said anything official regarding the Samsung Galaxy S7, the latest flagship smartphone from the Korean tech giant is indeed a big hit the same way that the company hoped with the smashing success of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge last year.

A Novel Idea Apple

In addition to excellent sales in the retail markets, the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge have received critical acclaim from critics because it has set the bar very high for other flagship smartphones that will be released this year. In particular, Samsung has put the pressure on Apple for its upcoming iPhone 7 to be released in September this year.
